Alternative Medicine For Cats

When deciding to use alternative medicine for cats, it should always involve a veterinarian who is licensed. You would not go to a doctor that has not been to medical school so why would you trust someone with your cat that has not been trained in the veterinary profession.

The differences between conventional medicine and alternative medicine has been debated for a long time. Some people believe that since alternative medicine is not supported by scientific studies, that it is not a safe practice. However, many people have had positive experiences by using alternative medicine for cats. Some of the types that are available are:

1) Acupuncture
2) Chiropractic procedures
3) Homeopathy
4) Aromatherapy
5) Massage therapy
6) Nutritional therapy

While these are only a few of the methods available, many people have opted for alternative medicine for cats and achieved lasting results. Arthritis is one of the conditions that have had beneficial results from chiropractic therapy. This method can also be used to treat neck pain, muscle spasms, and help to relieve symptoms from an injury.

The chiropractor uses sudden movements with their hands to stimulate the nervous system. The AVCA (American Veterinary Chiropractic Association) regulates doctors who practice this form of alternative medicine for cats. Only after quite extensive chiropractic training are these doctors certified to use these methods.

Cat homeopathy is an old therapy. Its meaning is 'treating with a similar disease.' What this means is the homeopath focuses on the animal healing himself. Using 'remedies' that are matched to the symptoms of your cat, they are given to the animal. This is supposed to trigger the natural abilities they have to fight illness. The cat must be watched closely by the homeopath, who by the way can only be a licensed veterinarian.

This alternative medicine for cats is normally used for allergies, feline alopecia (baldness), feline asthma, and problems involving the stomach and intestines. This is being studied for effectiveness and is still in the preliminary stages when it comes to treating cats.

There may be beneficial results from alternative medicine for cats however, the person administering this type of homeopathic therapy should be checked out before you proceed. Make sure you are using a licensed veterinarian and that you feel comfortable letting them treat your cat. You should never let someone treat your cat if a license cannot be produced showing they are actually an animal doctor and have the training to provide the type of therapy they are proposing.
