Importance Of Veterinary Scales

Industrial scales have been designed to weigh objects, equipments, components, containers, machinery etc, and are used in retail, food processing, agriculture, rail and road construction, automotive industry etc. These scales are also known as heavy duty scales. On the other end, we have analytical scales or micro balancers that weigh objects with extreme sensitivity to the last decimal of a microgram. However, all these scales have been designed to work with objects.

One type of scales that comes for weighing living things i.e. animals is called veterinary scales. Although, bathroom scales and other human weighing machines can be used for some animals, but the accuracy of reading may not be accurate owing to some factors peculiar to animals. Also veterinary scales are very essential part of a vet's clinic as his work usually starts from weighing animals to diagnose illness as the pet cannot speak for itself.

Veterinary scales are designed keeping in view the different type of animals that will be placed on it like bird, pets, large animals and even reptiles like snakes or crocodiles. Each animal has peculiar shape, habits and movement style as well as environmental demands. While objects can be weighed with digital measurements, animals are sure to react instantly to change in temperature, pressure or surroundings hence their movements are multiplied in the vet's clinic unless they are trained or home pets. Manufacturers have kept this in mind and designed scales with Weight Average and Hold option that ensures accurate measurement even with animal mobility. Particular software sorts out animal actions and locks animals' weight.

The same veterinary scales are also used in farms to weigh livestock. The construction in such cases needs to be sturdy to withstand harsh farm conditions. Sensors are made of stainless steel to stand against wear and tear. Better scales are sealed providing water resistance like against rain or light animal waste. The scales that will be kept in harsh weather like farms to weigh breeding animals or agricultural areas for weighing crops etc, special features have been designed by manufacturers. For example, welded steel is used in constructions to make it tough and weather resistant. An additional zinc rich epoxy coating is applied to the scale to protect from moisture and chemicals, hence making it particularly feasible for weighing fertilizers, pesticides and other chemicals besides farm animals of course.

Certain animals need to be regulated for their weighing parameters. Animals that fall out of the maximum or minimum requirements can cost the farmer. Veterinary scales can certainly help them make a steady living. A leading manufacturer has come up with special designs for agriculture veterinary use which is the pig sorter scale. The technology used in its construction makes it both rugged and animal friendly with Stainless steel load sensors with 500% overload capacity. The pigs weighed are recorded and analyzed. Feeding areas are then designated for pigs with certain dietary requirements depending on weight. Veterinary scales should be ENAC certified or approved by local govt. authority according to industry.
